just a request for help please, i have a sata in another pc its crashing all the time with possible virus activity, i have put the hdd in my pc to scan for viruses but it is not picked up in windows, i went in disk manager and its listed there but with no drive letter assigned also the explore tab is greyed out, any ideas how i can get it to be recognised so i can scan it for viruses without losing any data ?

i don't know if its relevant but it has norton go back installed.

thanks

Was it in a RAID array? Did it have any encryption software installed?

If it's part of a RAID array then it's not going to work for obvious reasons - I'd put it back in the old machine and check that the filesystem is NTFS you can also run an online virus check which may save you the hassle of moving it into your other PC.

just a single sata drive formatted to ntfs, i keep getting scvhost error when it boots in original pc then locks up and cannot use online.

I'm sure it was just a typo (instead of svchost), but scvhost.exe is registered as the W32/Agobot-S virus.

If it isn't a typo, I would recommend backing up any important files on that drive and starting with a fresh build.

You'll need to either use Partition Manager to change the partition type or install GoBack on the second machine. The software changes the partition type such that Windows cannot access it without the GoBack software loaded.

It's an utter pain in the rear, yet another "feature" that's more hassle than it's worth.
