Ive just built myself a file server out of an old computer. It didn't have any SATA ports on the motherboard so I brought a SATA pci card for it. Windows is installed on an IDE harddrive and boots up fine and detects the new card.

However when I connect a sata harddrive to the card and restart the pc windows will not boot. It gets to the point where the windows logo should come up and the screen just turns black and stays that way. Any idea what causing this?

Thanks

Just to clarify, windows is on the IDE drive, and drivers have been installed, but when connecting a sata drive it hangs on bootup?

managed to find a bios update for the board and all is sorted now

EDIT: Just restarted it and the same problem is occuring the above seemed to be a one time fix.
