Hi all

I'm new to building pc's and I'm unsure on the best sata ports to use for my ssd and hdd. I have a 256gb ssd, 2tb hdd and I have the gigabyte z97x gaming 5 motherboard. Any advice on how to have these set up would be great. Sorry if this is a stupid question:(

Thanks

Just plug them into one of the SATA port's, if you need to install the operating system just have the SSD installed and install the other drive once the operating system is setup.

I tend to keep the ports in order - SSD in 1, mechanical drive in 2 and optical in 3.

Not complicated as you've got just one controller onboard.

Put SSD to SATA3_0 port, hard drive to SATA3_1 port and optical drive (probably you've got one) to SATA3_2 port.
SATA3_4 & SATA3_5 ports share PCIe lanes with M.2 port, so remeber it - once M.2 is populated, SATA3_4 & SATA3_5 stop working. SATA3_3 port is still free :)
