Hi all,

I've found my PSU has run out of SATA power cables, and was wondering if it's a good idea to be using SATA power splitters...will splitting one power source in two like that provide enough power for safe & proper operation of each drive?

Yep, will be fine. you can also use sata-molex adapter cables, most motherboards ship with a few of theese.

Just ensure you have a good PSU that can provide the power. Also, bear in mind that its not so much the voltage its the Amps delivered by your PSU. Your drives will require a certain amount of power each so the more drives you add the more load you'll put on that power outlet. If you go above the specified ampage for the connector output you will have boot problems. But i use the power splitters on two systems and they are fine. I would recommend you don't put more than one splitter on per power output connection.

Are you planning on running SSDs or HDDs of the splitter? HDDs have always worked fine for me, but splitters were a nightmare with my Vertex 2e (intermittantly not detected on boot etc).
