Hi, i've bought all what i need to re-build my pc. I was just wondering if what i am planning to will actually work.

1. install XP Pro onto the SATA without the IDE Plugged in.
2. Plug the IDE in as Secondary, then transfer all the data from the IDE to the SATA
3. Unplug the SATA, re-format the IDE
4. Plug SATA in and the IDE and then put some of the data originally from the IDE back onto the IDE.

Sorry if it's a bit confusing, im hoping it will work for me, please leave your opinion.

Some motherboards have issues with using both IDE and SATA drives at the same time. Windows will always try to boot from disk 0, but some motherboards will always count the IDE drive as disk 0 so you can't boot windows from the SATA. The way round it is to use a bootloader to logical switch the disks. GRUB works well for that.
