Hello,

I am from Belgium and saw that this website is all about hardware and people helping out.

I have a question about MSI K9A2 Platinum, namely that this mboard has 6 SATA ports (4 purple ones and 2 red ones). I know the 2 red SATA ports are for using RAID, but i need 5 sata ports for this configuration and do NOT want a raid configuration, i need the 5th (or 6th) port for normal sata (DVD-Drive). When i plug it in it does not recognize the DVD-Drive, so my question was is it even possible to have this as a normal sata port? if yes, how? if no, How can i get more sata ports?

I know this is kinda an old motherboard, but i do not need anything faster or beter for me this is absolutly ok.

Thank you in advanced for you're help

Kind Regards

Hello,

Thank you for you're fast response, do you mean this one? i do not see the word 'promise' in it (have windows 7 64 bit)

Type On-Board PIDE/SATA Drivers Title ATI SB600 RAID Driver
OS Win7 32, Win7 64 Language English
Release Date 2010-04-16 File Size 0.25 MB
File Download
Description ATI SB600 RAID driver
1. Extract the file and Copy all files to the floppy.
2. Press F6 to install driver through the floppy when booting and loading RAID function.
XP/XP64 Ver: 2.500.1540.48
Vista 32/64 Ver: 2.5.1540.48
Win7 32/64 Ver: 2.5.1540.17

Then the next problem, i do not have a floppy drive, does this really need to be installed via floppy? (release date 2010?)

Edit:

When i select Vista 64 bit it does show this one:

ype On-Board PIDE/SATA Drivers Title Promise SATA RAID Drivers
OS Vista 32, Vista 64 Language English
Release Date 2008-04-10 File Size 0 MB
File Download
Description Win XP Ver.: 1.1.1030.27
Win 2K Ver.: 1.1.1030.27
Vista32/64 Ver.: 1.1.1030.47

Which is not required to install by floppy, can i install vista 64 bit driver on Windows 7 64 bit?
(This driver is not in the list of Windows 7 64 bit)

I'd be having a pure guess here as the board is rather old.

You maybe able to install those drivers onto the newer OS, its going to be trial and error I am afraid.

Also maybe in the BIOS is the option to turn the Promise controller ON/OFF and select either RAID/JBOD/SATA configuration if you still have no luck and/or the driver cant be installed as it cannot find a compatible device.

This is all guess work from me mind you.

Im not sure if this is helpful but i dont think the dvd drive will work on ports 5 and 6.

2 SATA II (5~6) ports by Promise T3, support SAS ready devices, for storage devices only

Hello,

All thank you very much for you're answers. i will put the HDD on the port 5 then and the DVD-Drive on the other port. I will check the bios soon first, and if i can not find it i will install the vista 64 driver on windows 7 64. I will have to do this next week or so as i am waiting for my SATA-cable to arrive. I will post the probably post the outcome next week. Again thank you very much

Kind Regards
