Hi all,

So, i was wondering, is there a huge difference (real-world) in sata vs sataII, the reason I ask is because i ordered a 750GB samsung F1 drive and my motherboard is only SATA, but i've been thinking of getting a cheap 939 pci-e/SATAII board and a new graphics card, is it worth it and what combo would u go for?

Thanks

hmm, okay had no idea of their confusing naming scheme within SATA... thanks, but anyhow, do you(anyone) think its worth changing 939 board from my AGP board to a PCI-e board and if so which is recommended these days, i take it the choice of these is quite limited now

sata2 drives are no faster than decent sata 1 drives. In fact a raptor built on pata technology is still faster than pretty much all sata 2 drives, sata2 is only a ploy to move people onto new products in my opinion.

you should be fine. there are some boards that dont recognise sata2 its to do with the northbrodge chip on them cant remember the exact chip that caused the problem. but there are allways ways round it a lot of hardrives have jumpers on back to change between sata 1 and sata 2 and alsot a lot auto detect and change them selves. if you do have aprob most hdd manufactures have a utility to change the sata/sata2 firmware side.
