Hi guys

Thinking about putting up a sat dish and box. Am thinking about getting a 90cm one. Will only be used for free stuff. When setting up the dish will it pick up the chanels on Astra and Eurobird Satellites or will I need a motorised dish to be able to do this?

Any help would be appricated guys

yes it will, they are super sensitive as you would imagine, it is like saying is it ok to run my car just using gears 1 and 5.

A dish correctly aligned for astra 2 will pick up eurobird anyway, no need for a huge dish, in NI I would imagine a 60cm should do it

last Q do you mean Eurobird and not Hotbird ( 13e )

after looking at an up to date list of the free sat channels im not sure its even worth the hassle of free sat IMO, the gain of quality channels doesn't quite add up for the hassle of mounting a dish to the house and aligning it.

I don't work for Rupert Murdoch but a cheap package on sky would be more worthwhile

if astra 2 then just point at that and eurobird should be picked up as well on sindle lnb, no need for such a big dish either

I believe that this is correct - you should be able to pick up both of these two from a single dish.

Indeed, AFAIK for FreeSat, the EPG is broadcast on Eurobird, whereas most of the channels come from Astra2 (it's picking up exactly the same streams as a Sky box would).

Cheap dishes could probably be found on an auction site if you're prepared to fit it yourself. This site is useful:

By the way, if you think you are likely to want to invest in a twin tuner PVR at some point, then it would be worth fitting a dual LNB.

The forums over at Digital Spy are a mine of information for this sort of thing.
