In dire need of a post Deus Ex cyberpunk fix, I decided to buy this last night on a bit of a whim. I'm not sure what to make of it so far though (about four hours in). It was advertised as a spiritual successor to Syndicate, but the squad mechanics, abilities, AI and camera all seem inferior and quite frustrating at times.
Has anyone here played it? Is it worth persevering with for the sake of the story? Also, do stealth abilities play a significant role later in the game? Because at the moment I've found myself having no option other than to shoot everything. Cheers.

Story isn't great but I actually really got into it. Only take about 10-15 hours to complete in total though, so if you're 4 hours in its worth keeping going as I reckon it gets better!

And yes you can do a lot of missions by (almost) pure stealth, in fact you have to or you'll get overwhelmed.

I was wondering about how long the game was. For some reason (prior to purchase) I thought it was longer, but given the amount of missions I've already done, 10-15 seems right. I'll keep going through. Might try and build my hacker character up a bit more and try some stealth tactics. Thanks.:)

Hacker and Sniper are key to success, as are the squad buff abilities.

I really enjoyed SR and hope 5Lives sold enough to warrant continuing the franchise

Tried it myself in the past, did not scratch that itch unfortunately. My fear is the next game that will be out which will be our cyberpunk fix will be Cyberpunk 2077 which is 1-2 years away yet :(

Yep, eagerly awaiting that one as well. It's going to be a long wait.

It's a shame as Syndicate Wars was one of my favourite games ever, loved it.

You could dig holes in the landscape with repeated cataclysm grenades, it was always good fun.

Don't meet your idols. SW was amazing in it's time, and many elements still work now (the ambience is amazing for example). But it doesn't have the depth that even SR has in squad dynamics and tactics.

Rush in and nuke them/run away when getting bested etc.

True. It's easy to form a rose tinted view of something, especially if that something was/is held in high regard. That said....I'm tempted to drop £4 on it just to see how it stands up. Out of morbid curiosity if nothing else:D
