Has anyone used satnav friction mounts which are basically weighted bean bag which you stick the Satnav to and place it on the dashboard instead of vents or windscreen?

If so are they any good, pretty pricey at £20 so don't want to waste my monies.

I use a vent mount so I don't get marks on the screen. Just be careful when attaching it, I'm a bit ham fisted and a couple of times I've broken the directional slats in the vent :D

I use a mount where the vent used to be. I replaced it with a blank that I made out of a replacement vent bought from the dealer.

No vent to break, looks fully attached to the vehicle, no problems with people trying to break in to steal it.

The auction site vent mounts cost around £10 anyway and I don't know what their quality is like. Also not keen on losing vents for A/C.

We sell these at work... I don't like them because in the event of a crash I don't want a weighty bean bag flying around!

You really don't. We have a custom made mount which sits on a handy shelf in the MR2. When we crashed, it smashed the windscreen, and I have two lovely bruises on my leg from where in donked me on it's way around the cabin.

SatNav is fine though!

*** UPDATE ***

I have bought an Arkon vent mount, comes in at under a tenner inc delivery. It fits the vents perfectly and is sturdy, not flimsy thin plastic. Very pleased and got it in under 24 hours.

I got a suction mount on the bay for 3 quid from china and as the type R suspension is so hard it vibrates so badly you cant read it :p
