I am investigating how car sat navs deal with postcodes.

If you have a sat nav please put in the code B26 1DS.

Where does it direct you to without any house number?

- Does it ask you for a house number?
- Does it say it is between 1741 to 1795 Coventry road?
- Something else?

Google maps tells you where it is exactly - 1741.
All my TomTom 730 seems to tell me is that it is between 2 and 2599 - (with "2" as the initial suggestion) not very useful if you don't have the number!

I want to know if any other Sat Navs do a better job.

Thanks, Mel

Nokia E72 goes to 1780 Coventry Road, which isn't incorrect? Google maps only goes to 1741 because The Shooting Star is the nearest POI?

From the Post office checker the correct range is 1741 to 1795 so Nokia E72 is "mid-range" - a good estimate!

Thanks "Tim".

Here goes;

Gotham Rd
11-53
22-28
59-81
Coventry Rd
1507
1522-1580
1590-1616
1597
1607
1615-1641
1630-1652
1658-1746
1741
1748-1778
1781-1809
1782-1880
1847-1883
1961-1983
1989-1997
1998-2016
2045-2071
2078-2096
2102-2134
2109

Must say I've never seen a post code with so many options!

Tom Tom go 720 ( a bit out of date)

asks for house number starting with 2...
If I try and circumvent that it tells me to enter a number between 2-2599.

It did say Coventry Road though

Many sat nav systems, both portable and built into vehicles, will not use the full postcode and will require a house number as well.

How do I know this? I just happen to work in the industry, and one of the selling points we use is that our product (built-in unit) uses the full post code for destination entry.
