Satnav - What to use abroad?

OK thanks, I'll look into it tonight. I'll also get everyone else on the trip to do the same in case my phone dies or gets knicked!

If you deviate from the route, will it have those roads (ie does it download all roads for the country, or just the ones for your route). Also, are the European maps free?

Yup pretty much all maps are free IIRC.

It does recalculate - you can also do fastest/shortest route etc...

I like it - it's not perfect, but it works well enough and it's free.

We're going to be using maps.me later this year as well as google maps as I'm with three so I get shedloads of data in many countries abroad.

Sygic is brilliant. Paid app, but brilliant

Seconded. I use it all the time in the UK and have used it in France, Spain, Rhodes, Germany... all without any issues at all.

GPS location should still work without a data connection on a phone. It did for me in Florida with no maps downloaded.

One option could be to plan routes in advance and use your phone to check where you are.

No need to be a slave to sat nav.
