Just wondering seen some Tomtom One Uk for £180 and was thinking of getting one a few questions;

1) Are there an reasons to get a better one as I wont goto other countries?
2) Can you add speed cameras on?
3) Is it quick to sort out and loud volume IE above a bit of music?
4) How long does it take to calculate a new route if you take a wrong turning or does it not do this?

not really

2) Can you add speed cameras on? yep, a quick google will show you it's a couple of quid for a one off of all current cameras

3) Is it quick to sort out and loud volume IE above a bit of music?loud enough, sure, i've never had any issues.

4) How long does it take to calculate a new route if you take a wrong turning or does it not do this? very quickly...

1) No
2) Yes ,pocketgpsworld.com , £2/month iirc
3) Yes
4) It automatically re-routes, most do

Sorry guys one more question is there a big difference between the normal one and the "v2" ?

Not sure about the software but it looks better and its thinner.

You can add speed cameras but tomtom only knows them as points of interest and not in real time. You need to update them now and then as new cameras are added.

If you take a wrong turn then it will recalculate the route in about 10 seconds or so.

Cool... Very last question honest..

How long does the battery last or does it use a power supply from the car/cig lighter?

They have a built in rechargable battery which will last a couple of hours or so during use. They use the cigarette lighter for external power which will also charge the battery so you can use it for as long as you want.

The software will be tomtom 5 and the version model is dependant on your preference. You can install addons easily as everything runs from a SD memory card on the lower models. The higher models have a hard disk with a lot more space but these will use more power and can eventually fail.

SD memory is better I feel as there is no moving parts and if you want more memory then just copy the contents onto a bigger SD card.

Nope the Software will be TomTom v6, probly v6.15 or the newer v6.52.

The latter of which you can add .ogg files for all POI's instead of the standard 'Honks' and 'Beeps', which I've done for the TGPPS Cameras!... :)

Ah..I thought V6 was only available on the tomtom rider. I guess they put it across the whole range now :)

Just thought i'd say cheers got one and it seems alright got the £2 POI camera database and it seems alright although not sure how you add your own sounds, can i do it on my version?;

App 6.501
OS:1343
GPS v1.21
Boot 4.81
UK~RoI v660.1199

iirc all version 6 software since v6.15 you can, if not just update the firmware to 6.52 (the newest!!), then all you need to do is...

1) make some .ogg sound files for each POI,
2) name them identical to the POI just like the .bmp for it, eg: TVR_UK.ov2 with TVR_UK.bmp you make TVR_UK.ogg.
3) Put the .ogg file in the same directory as the POI (The UK Map Directory).
4) Activate the 'Warn When Near POI' and it'll automatically select the sound file you've made!.

You can always get some ready made voices!...

http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/voiceskins.html Here for Voice 'Direction' Skins (Vicki is my favorite!!... Nicer than the Standard Jane).

http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/realvoice.html And Here for the .ogg files (which you need to re-name as the POI's!) at the bottom of the page!!!..

The only draw back is the size of the SD card!... you might need a 512Mb one (I'm still using the 256Mb that came with my TTG500 and its getting full!!).

Plus: DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP!!! using the Home Software BEFORE you do any of this!.

Sim :)

When attempting to update the maps on my tomtom 1 it tells me the memory hasn't got enough room & to delete something first, i.e one of the voices or whatever, It was new in june & there are lots of new roads etc not on its map

where did you get new maps from?

Bit annoyed as a dual carriage way thats been open nearly 10 months isnt on there?!!

Lol i went through the centre of bristol with mine and it started going mental too, lots of newly built roads that arent on the maps lol.

If you've just bought a new TT One then you already have the latest map.
