Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has one of these in their house

Just rented a place and had a grubby one (and hot tub) fitted in shed in garden. Cleaned it up a bit and used this weekend a few times and I'm hooked. Only ever used them at Spas before, but having your own is fantastic

I worked out running costs and including heating up time and a 45min session it costs about £1 a go. I'm kinda addicted already.

Yeah fantastic feeling... then a nice cool bath afterwards. Been running it at around 70C which is hot enough for me, some nutters go much higher though.

My fiancee is a Finn, so I get to travel over there a lot, suanas every day then, love them...

Nothing else makes you feel so clean and refreshed.

Would love to build one in my house but haven't really looked in to the costs, work involved etc.

I am half Finnish and I want one so badly. Nothing better than a hot sauna followed by a swim in a lake followed by a nice cold beer.

I don't think there is that much to them. Appears to be a shed, with a internal room built inside it from wood with insulation in between. Tiled floor, benches and the heater.

Could be wrong though :)

Finnish people be crazy. I did this in the middle of winter when doing some work with Nokia. They had to make a hole in the ice on the lake. The shade of red my skin went was very special.

Yeah i've done the whole rolling in the now thing as well. :D

Flukester, you need to make a Finnish Vasta - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish_sauna

Also, get a good bottle of pilsner and chuck some of that on the coals instead of water.

Love them, having one at home is fantastic.

Knocking my bathroom about at the moment, after removing a vanity unit area i have a space of 1.8m by 1.something which i've been thining about sticking in a small sauna.

Main reason holding me back is i've read trying to sell a house with a sauna can be tricky.

So the other option is to change the walkin shower to a shower / steam room.

I'm not that keen on being sweaty. I'm sure I'm missing something here though that makes it different to just being hot and bothered.

You don't feel sweaty as such, just completely wet (and hot),
and your pores feel like they have been cleaned with a nailgun afterwards.

I quite fancy one of these, I bet I could run one off a woodstove or something.

I'd love a steam room but I'd take a sauna.

Nothing like sitting in the sauna on the highest setting for an hour or so then coming out and diving into a shower on the coldest setting. What a rush!

If I were to build an outside sauna then it would most definitely have a wood stove, the heat is much less harsh than that of an electric stove.

I am yet to have a smoke sauna, I am told these are the best you can have, you have to build these away from everything though as they tend to burn down a lot!

Hehe the conservatory is our sauna.. on a sunny day the temps sting the nose and you have that sauna feel.. it's no wonder it kills off all life (plant, insect or animal) in there!

Would love to have a sauna!

Not quite as good as the full on Hamam in Morrocco but they aren't bad!
