save recovary drive as an image file.

hi,

my laptop like mant these days have a recovary partition. problem for me is the my harddrive is alreayd quite small and cannot be upfraged so space is valuable. is it possible to save the partition as a image file on my external drive? so i can then delete the partition from my internal hardrive and reallocate the extra space?

if so, which free application is the best?
