Obviously there are lots of "i have £XXX to spend" threads in here.

What about a sticky thread with suggested best buys in price ranges?

£100 - £150
£150 - £175
£175 - £200
£200 - £250

etc

Can have ATI and NV in each segment to prevent excessive argument. Also include single card and SLi so we can compare.

Would need to be carefully controlled but would be helpful IMO.

Just an idea.

Peter:)

Problem is the GPU range and prices change all the time - whats relevant one week might be completely out of the picture the next.

There's something in GH by 95thrifles that gives recommended builds for price levels, basically I'd match up my computer to the price level and see what he has recommended :)

Very true, when i bought my 470's, one cost £214.00 one week. A week or so later i got my second for £189.00.

A nice idea though I do agree with the above comments, with fluctuating prices it might be quite difficult. It would certainly need regular updates.

Update the prices weekly from OcUK's site (to keep things simple).

Might save time in the long run.

Also would provoke (no doubt) a LOT of conversation. With new cards added and EOL cards drop into different price brackets and become bargains etc.

IMO this topic is discussed numerous times every week in threads on specific cards. This just brings it all together.

Worthwhile IMO.

Yup - prices I paid - some for myself and some for builds I did:

£164
£189
£178
£217 (my original card)
£219

For GTX470s all within weeks of each other (most of these are the same POV cards too except for one gigabyte).

EDIT: Same with AMD cards too - got invoices from a build for 2gig 6950s a week apart with a £25 difference.

Thinking about it a VERY wide range of cards too. Some better at different resolutions.

Would be hard to categorise, and as you say changing almost daily.

Back to the drawing board.:(

Its a good idea on paper but someone would have to be updating it atleast weekly at the moment and most people would want to see benchmarks, etc. too before buying so it would need someone to put a lot of effort in.

Quite sure something a long these lines already exists, but it would be hard to continuously update... Anyway, I'm sure the people of Oc forum don't mind helping out :D

Also... this is the graphics cards forum!

It would be easier to get a settled agreement on key issues between the extreme far-right skinhead movement and Unite Against Fascism than it would to get the nvidia and ATI fans giving a calm consensus on best buys for your money! ;)
