Farmer's emotional plea to PM to 'save our bacon'
Farmer's emotional plea to PM to 'save our bacon'
A British pig farmer has told the BBC that there not enough abattoir staff to humanely slaughter her pigs.

"We are in the worst position that UK agriculture has ever found itself," Kate Morgan said.

"Come and speak to me, Boris Johnson, have the guts to stand up and talk to us."

The government has said it is working with the industry to find sustainable solutions and that it is right to challenge businesses to pay higher wages and invest in skills.

Is there a way to embed the video from BBC ? I don't think so, would be cool if there was

But instead of crying about having to cull the pigs and throw away the bodies, why can't they either keep the pigs alive until a time comes they can be slaughtered or just send the culled pigs to the butchers ? If there's people able to kill them on the farm, surely they could just kill them in the slaughter houses and the problem is solved ?

I'm also surprised supremo butcher Boris isn't coming up with a slogan to get everybody losing their £20 universal credit bonus to retrain as butchers

IIRC if an animal isn't killed in an abbatoir it can't be sold for human consumption (I could be wrong though)
I find the whole thing quite grim, but I am going off meat rapidly. The whole industry is pretty disgusting.
You'd have to be a certain sort of person to work in an abbatoir.

My philosophy is only eating creatures I would be okay with killing, was taught how to fish growing up so I'm okay eating fish & seafood, insects too but anything else I don't think I could kill so I won't eat their meat

The easy solution to the pig problem is bring in the army, seems an awful waste of creatures to just destroy them and not take anything from their death
