Save the NHS!

I think saving NHS is stupid, sooner they sell it off the better. Private healthcare is by far superior.I am healthy, why should I pay for some 80 year old geezer who lives in the hospital? He should've looked ahead and saved up for his hospitalization, sell his bungalow or something. Utterly ridiculous.

Have you ever lived in a country that has private health care?

I want to make it clear, I am not saying that if you can't pay that you will just die un-treated.

Just expect to be getting the "crumbs" from the "Normal" healthcare.

"Normal Dentist" = one chair, watch tv all smiles around.

"Crumbs Dentist" = 100 chairs in a cold hall, all student dentists practicing, with one more or less qualified individual making sure you dont get absolutely butchered.

I'm sure medical schools would even pick up most of the bill since its not that easy to find lab rats to train on.

Sounds fair to me.

So that would be a no and you know nothing on how they operate. Good luck.

I am an expat in USA... So yes. While I agree that insurance system here is butchered... Still, a gang member could not get treatment in any medical facility that I have access to.

Unless he got shot outside of ER and even then I'm sure after he is stabilized he'd be kicked out.

There are always going to be casualties regardless, its life. Difference is that right now, an individual who has paid immense amount of money to NHS is at great risk of being shafted due to shortages caused by these blood suckers.

It is simply not fair.

A blood sucker should face far greater risk than of a contributing individual... Right now they are on same level.

Its a toxic system that provides no incentive for the blood suckers to change, while showing absolutely no recognition to contributing members of society.

I agree in principle, but your stance is too black and white. In particular, it falls down for those who get taken ill or develop life changing diseases with no prior warning. What then? "Sorry Mr Daniels, you should have thought about putting money aside on the off-chance you developed MND"

The system itself is fine but the balance of it tips toward those who need it most. Whilst you're young you'll be less likely to need care but obviously those that live longer will need additional care.. these are facts. The "money" you pay in toward the system will come back to you over the course of a lifetime, if you require the help. If you live to 100 without a health issue then you'll be "worse off" in the long term, but there are those which abuse the system and I don't blame you for being annoyed at those.

I'm not sure what the answer is, apart from asking those with self-inflicted injury/ill health to pay more but that's a slippery slope. A private system could work, but would it really be better? Imagine paying £10,000 on medical fees to have a child at the local hospital.. those with drug addictions will still get state aid and the treatment they need, unless of course you believe they'd be left to rot in the street?

I wouldn't condemn people who'd had a run of bad luck or spend all their hard earned money caring for another family member and have to make sacrifices for themselves, etc. to that personally.

We only truly make the world a better place for ourselves by helping to make it a better place for everyone and that counts as much for those abusing social welfare as those too tight to contribute to it.

err... that is exactly how it works? We have plenty of dental schools running these "lab rat shops" where the school subsidies heavily treatment costs.

No you was posting about how the NHS should be sold off and go with private health care.
Now are you going to answer my questions?

I made a mistake by focusing that "Private" healthcare is better which drew arrows to the US system.

Realistically, what I want to see is that people who do not contribute, will receive free healthcare but quality of that will reflect it.

People who contribute should be rewarded accordingly with much better service.

While US insurance system is a mess, it still meets that criteria. I believe there are better ways to do it though.

You will not get the medicare/medicaid (forgot which one is for poor) treatment at a top hospital with top notch equipment and why should you?? It makes sense.

This can be ran on government level as well, its the principle that Private Healthcare currently has in the world that you get what you pay for. Rather than regardless what you pay, service is the same.

What are you blabbing on about? You had one question, which was answered?

Being a ex-pat you should know that any kind of private health care is a bad idea.
Well that's unless you've got a few $million in the bank.

err no, not really? I dont have few million, far from it. I do have a decent position at an employer that pays for a Platinum level PPO coverage.

So when I do want to see my Primary Care (GP) I can just walk in between 8 am or 8 pm and get treated in timely manner, or if I do not want to wait I can always give them an advance call to schedule an app.

They also have a lab on site so most of the common things get tested and diagnosed right on the spot. I also do not see any shady individuals either while at it.

I can also call any of the hundreds other GP's and walk in their office, or if I feel its something more serious I can always go directly to the specialists in the medical area.

So your level of healthcare is dependant on your ability to get a good job?

Sounds completely fair.
No, really.

And if you ever get cancer(hope not) and you can't work. Who pays the bills?
I know the US system as I've been using it for years. The NHS is so much better in every way.

You can always pay insurance premium independently without a job  If you have absolutely no money there is medicaid/medicare just expect service to be crappy.

Same for cancer, dont have income you get qualified for medicaid/medicare. You also get COBRA which allows continuation of your insurance even without employment.

I mean I don't get it, a 20p water bottle isnt going to be as good as VOSS that is more expensive. Why shouldnt healthcare quality be correlated to your income? And in the shape that NHS is right now, I'd probably take my chances with medicaid/medicare.

I can see you have no clue of the US system. If you have no job and someone gets cancer your dead.

"Medicare Part B covers outpatient chemotherapy treatments, such as in a freestanding clinic or doctor's office. In this case, you'd pay 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount, after paying the Medicare Part B deductible. Medicare also covers radiation therapy for cancer patients"

No income no help.

And if you ever get seriously ill and lose your job, will you be quite happy to get the crumbs with the other 'lab rats', or will you perhaps try to move back here to use the NHS...

I just dont think you guys realize how bad the NHS has become, I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment with my GP. The results of labs took weeks, forget about any referrals to specialists that was months. No choice who you get to see, no chance for second opinion.

From what I've heard, even the medicare is not that bad!! You assume that NHS is this holy grail of quality service, when truly its light years behind state of the art hospitals here. It doesnt even matter how much money you have in UK, private healthcare does not have any advanced hospitals that are beyond NHS. It's a mere quick pass to NHS, the actual quality is identical.

That 80 year old geezer probably paid into the system all his life. ;)
