Next few days i'm going to gut out my computer and fit a new motherboard, cpu and memory. I use 2 hd drives on my computer, one for progs and the other for data.
I'm going to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 from xp.
Will the data drive contents show up on my new computer or am i going to have to back it all up somehow?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ok any files you have on the primary drive (one for progs) that you need copy over to the slave (data drive).

You can then format the primary drive when you boot the system from the windows 7 disk. It may make sense to disconnect the slave drive just so you dont accidently wipe your date. Once windows is installed you can reconnect the drive and your data will be there for you to use

Hope this helps

Disconnecting the data drive is solid advice, nothing worse than that sinking feeling when you realise you just hit format on the wrong drive.

You may have to 'take ownership' of your files when you're in Windows 7 but thats not big deal.

No worries, there are no silly questions just stupid people who dont ask questions ;p

It may pay to download the 64bit drivers you need before formatting the OS. I'm thinking the network card and or wifi adapter so you can definately get online once windows 7 is on the pc. There is a slim chance it may not recognise them and the disks that came with the kit may not work either.

Let us know how it goes
