Did a load of work on an assignment that was rubbish the other night at about 4am after a long day, was saving all the way through, only realised just now that it hasn't actually saved to the rar, obviously.

It's not the 'recent' documents, and I've searched for it.

Anyway it I can get it back? I have the original crap file but as it was so late, I can't even remember what I wrote.

You saved it to a rar file ? Did you not save it to somewhere first on the computer?

files will be in your temp folder

click, start, run

type in..

%temp%

press enter, that'll open the temp folder, it'll be messy but should be in there (might be in a subfolder)

I did exactly the same thing as you. Now only use F12 in word, excell etc.... i now pick the location!

Could you not perform a search over the entire computer searching in system folders and hidden files/folders for the *.rar (* being the wildcard character).

Already ran a search in there, the rar folder in there just brings up the original file.

Should have been more clear, I was editing an assignment from the previous year, all my last years work is in a rar.

in the temp folder, you should be looking for the type of document you were editing, not a rar file

ie, if it was a word document, look for all the .doc files in the temp folder and it's subfolders, the name might not even be the same as before, check for the 'last modified' dates on the filetype you're looking for

that's the best you can do i'm afraid
