Last night, i thought of a very simple way to stop zerging or atleast nerf zerging.

Say your on a game with 6 controlable areas, 2 factions say.

Stats remain the same for <100 people ( in the zone of each faction )
Sats decrease by 10% for 100-10
Stats decrease by 20% for 100-140
Stats decrease by 45%(including nukes) for 150+

Now obviously its a very rough form, but why coulnt this work or have been implemented years before?

Alternatively you could make it proper PvP like Guild Wars uses... 4v4, 8v8 and 8v8 (GvG). WoW PvP is a lame excuse for a huge cluster****. Skill > timespent/population

I don't see what is so hard about doing a fun PvP game. Darkfall online, almost had it, but the game is horribley boring, my guild used to go 2 hours looking for pvp. If DFO had buildable cities you could put anywhere like SB, that would have been a blast.

WoW has the stats buff in the latest PvP zone, in that the bigger the gap in numbers between factions, the more buffed up the lesser faction gets.

See now I dont consider that to be "proper" PvP at all. I really rather hate nice and even balanced team pvp in MMOs. Then again I do come from a background of UO.

"Proper" PvP? No..I dont think so. Its merely another variation of PvP, no more proper or improper than any other form.

Its an interesting idea, worth a try, as most things are.

Not sure I would like it though, some of the best large scale...actually THE best large scale PvP I have played in an MMO was in Daoc. If this kind of rule was in force in Daoc I'm not sure things would have been as awesome in some of the huge several hundred people pitched battles.

But like I say, most things are worth a try to see if they're viable, so its worth a try.

I for one find massive random zergs in big groups a lot more fun than 5vs5 etc, Hence me having not step foot in an arena in WoW since the week they were introduced

Why fix zerging? I mean even within a zerg there will always people that are at the fringes by themselfs, if you don't like the zerg play there. Look at WOW and the old AV which used to be full of NPCs, a lot of the matches lasted days. You could spend a whole day in one AV and get every type of pvp under the sun. When they toke away the NPCs the pvp all but disappeared.

Guild wars is just like playing any old fps with its silly arenas though, real pvp is on a huge scale, massive sieges e.t.c. im looking at you www.darkfallonline.com

wows stat buffs are as retarded as any kind of "balance" that puts one side at a disadvantage.

no one likes going to wintergrasp and trying to cap a flag or whatever for some no skill player to come along and one shot you before they have a silly big buff

Guild wars and proper PvP... Lol

We all know that there is only one MMO that delivered "proper" PvP rather than this staged crap :)

UO!

planetside had a similar system, the lower population got more health and xp gain until the number balanced out. providing someone directed it (and they listened) the zerg was quality, gave lots of opportunities to experience other parts of the game for those that weren't in it - all of which went towards achieving the same aim. plus it was fun sometimes to run mindlessly about.

Proper PvP is something that actually has balance. Guild Wars may of been a small scale but it was for the most part, balanced. You can't balance 50+ a side cluster****s, especially when population and level (ie time spent) is such a huge driving force behind what team wins. Lame ass attempts to 'even the teams' by buffing up stats on the underpopulated side doesn't solve the issue, it just shows how flawed it is by design.

I remember the RF online PvP, yes it was very tactical, but it also had so much level bias in it that in the end, there was nothing that could be done to stop 1 side that had more population than the other 2 races combined.

As I have already said, there is no such thing as "Proper" PvP. There are merely variants of PvP. Some people (like me) like large scale, no restrictions on numbers PvP (a la UO, Daoc etc), some people like small scale GroupvGroup PvP, some people like 1v1 PvP. Theres no "Proper" PvP. Its like racing, there is no "Proper" racing, just variants. (Horses, F1, Bikes etc). No single version of it is any more right or wrong than any one of the others.
