was out last night for a bit of fun. was raining, took off from the lights and wheel spun, next thing i know there is a loud knocking coming from the front of the car, as if the engine was swinging back and forward.

this happens regularly when im out raking but only when i wheel spin. i think i have damaged the engine and gearbox mounting brackets, resulting in the engine rocking back and forwards.

i have changed the bracket and rubber mouniting under the batterry on the passenger side as the rubber was cracked/dosed.

i have a funny feeling that the gearbox mouning bracket is wrecked.

has anyone else had a similar problem or know what my problem really is as i am only guessing tbh but have a good idea.

EDIT - i used to have a problem where i would accelerate hardish and there would be a knock as if the engine was picking up slack and when i would take my foot completely off the accelerator there would be another knock as iff the engine was falling back into place but this could also be to do with the drive shafts being badly worn etc

It does sound like engine mounts to me. There is a battery side mount (which you've already replaced), a top mount on the other side, and a gearbox mount down the bottom. If the rubber was perished and knackered on one of them a while ago, the probability is that the others have gone now too - especially given the way you drive the car.

probably not then :p

Its hard to describe.

Try driving along, then change down and accelerate hard. If you hear a bang, then your engine mount's knackered :)

yea i drive the car hard, there was 60k on her when i got it, theres now 82k, 22k hoked miles. its on its 2nd clutch but the 1st one was wrecked as it used to be an ex DLA car so im sure they clutch was slipped something shocking by an old woman :p

yea sometime when i drop down a gear there would be a knock/bang but ive mastered the technique in driving the POS. its good when it works!

EDIT - also when dropping down the gears from high speeds, braking hard too of course, almost coming to a stop with the clutch in i go from 2nd to 1st, just before i slip it into 1st it seems like the gear is catching on something as there is a solid click noise, any ideas?

There's no need to change down. Just be rolling along in 2nd, 20mph. Put your foot down <clonk>...Then suddenly get out of the throttle at 35ish <clonk> That's the engine mounts.

A friends knackered fiesta years ago had such knackered engine mounts that the engine rocked 4 or 5 inches backwards and forwards and he couldn't engage 3rd gear unless the engine was in it's proper forwards position. So he'd set off in first, change to second, redline it, off the throttle, jab the brakes <bang> into third gear, carry on. Hoho!

mine used to do that but its gone now (wait till ya see, ill get home and itll be back, just my luck)

also there seems to be a 'dead spot' when i floor it in 2nd gear, just as i floor it it takes a second to pick up the revs again, whats that, t. body, injectors dirty?
