Ok,

I know my shizzle when it comes to hardware but I want some input on a build I will be doing for a mate of mine.

His primary use of the machine will be Video Editing using Sony Vegas Pro 11

Budget £1000 (Hardware Only)

I want a mobo that will support Ivy Bridge and be stable

GFX for CUDA?

Spec me up so I can get some ideas

Cheers

easy

just give stulid a buzz, he's the main expert on here. if he can't come up with a suitable build no one can :)

I would but not got the time right now.

edit: quick spec(do you need hard disks?)

CPU i2600k(last week would have said 2700k oem)

mb asrock extreme4 gen3 tho can't say if it'll be stable/cause no issues

RAM whatever is cheapest of pc3-12800 1600mhz, might want 16gb

cooler gelid tranquilo unless you already have a decent cooler or want 4.8ghz+

psu lepa g series 700w

gpu 560ti

case do you need one? raven3 if you do.

I want to use Cuda is the 440 ok with enough cores to warrant its purchase?

I've used CUDA for rendering in 3D studio, and it's interesting, but not faster than the CPU, and that was a GTX480 vs an i7 920 @3.8. Sony vegas may be a better use.

The Sony vegas benchmarks show a good speed improvement over an 17 960 at stock, but that's with a GTX570.

I wouldn't imagine a 440 would be quicker than the CPU in that build, even before it's overclocked.

I'd be intersted to see how it performed, but I wouldn't expect much. Of course if the engine supports rendering on both the CPU and GPU in parallel, (Which 3D studio doesn't) it can only help.

better case :)

with the cooler remember that the fins on the ram can be an issue especially if you plan on going 16gb now/in the future(filling all 4 slots).

lack of stulid is suprising :)

As long as you don't have any of the well documented asrock mobo issues it should be fine, oh and unless you bought the 2700k yesterday it's back upto £275.
