Am still using my old aged SB Live! Value soundcard and was wondering how this old dog fared when compared to my mobos, P965-DS3P on board sound card?

Only real reason I ask is that I know the Live! has no drivers under Vista so want to know if I need to get a new soundcard if the on boards not much cop when I decide to make the move.

I have an old SB live 5.1 myself and was doing a bit of searching for vista drivers, there is no offical support for vista like you said but I did come across this: http://starstruckdeveloper.wordpress.com/2006/11/15/upgraded-to-vista-with-soundblaster-livevalue/

I haven't ordered my new PC yet so I dont know if using the XP(64?) drivers works, but it sounds promising :p

As for how it sounds i've never been able to use the card since it conflicts horribly with my VIA chipset (stuttering audio at best, BSOD/lockups/wont boot at worst)... damn you creative!

I have the same motherboard and found that my old Audigy sounded much better, I assume that the SB Live probably does as well. Onboard does the job but it may not sound as great as some soundcards. It's a bit chaotic at the moment with soundcards and Vista, onboard seems to work fine but most of creative's stuff is pot luck, there seems to be a random chance that you may have random errors during installation.
