SB Tactic3D Rage USB headset not working

Hi

I bought a SB Tactic3D Rage USB headset from OC for my son and it does not work. It connects to (my new OC) computer via USB. The lights on the headset work. The creative control panel says the device works however there is no sound at all. I have disconnected the old speaker jack. I can find anything amiss except there is no sound. Anyone have any ideas?
