SBS 2003 Exchange Problem - SMTP

Hey guys,

Got a weird one today, well strange for me. I got a call from a guy I know about their exchange not working properly, specifically their sending.

Story is they moved premises last week week, including all the same IT equipment and setup. Same internet service provider etc...

The now however cannot send any emails. They can still receive fine.

Whenever they send an email, they get a bounceback from server: 550 Error relay denied access.

The main trouble for me is that I don't have access to their domain control panel. It's through a 3rd party who won't give me access as it's on their OWN control panel.

I have ran their domain in mxtoolbox and it comes back with SMTP failed to connect which I expected, but have no idea why this would happen.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Has the internal IP address range of their network changed?
The relay controls on the SMTP Service may have been allowed for the local subnet.

That could be a possibility to be honest. I know that someone who isnt an IT expert helped them with the move over the weekend, and they encountered some problems I believe. I will check that first thing in the morning.

Thanks

It could also be that you need to check how the outbound mail is configured on their sbs box in exchange I suspect it is set to relay through an ISP SMTP server which is rejecting the mail due to it using their own domain. For example if it were BT business you need to speak to them and have them add relay permission to their SMTP server for the companies custom domain. Check the properties of the send connector in exchange management console.

That's exactly what they have. It is smtp.btconnect.com. However nothing has changed, no-one has changed any settings, even same Static IP has been moved over with the same router. I think it may be the DHCP scope possibly. I don't know how the person powered down all the gear for transfer, but possibly the router may have reset.

Just to let you guys know.

It was the local subnet settings. Whoever setup the network changed the subnet including DNS pointers on the client machines. Once I changed it all - all mail flowing nicely.

Thanks guys
