Has anybody managed to get BES installed on an SBS 2008 server? I've read varying reports of success via the Professor.

If it is indeed impossible, can anybody suggest an alternative? The client has SBS 2008 Premium so we have a spare copy of Windows 2008 Standard (which is also going to have SQL Server installed if that should affect matters).

Trying to find any information on the BlackBerry knowledgebase is like trying to find a needle in a haystack :)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

BES isn't supported on win2008 at the moment. Check the downgrade rights applicable to the extra win2008 licence with sbs premium, it may be possible to install win2003 r2 under that licence.

Are blackberrys a requirement?

If not, activesync does a perfectly good job - something like a Nokia E61 or HTC Touch Pro will do a really nice job

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately BlackBerry's are a requirement :(

Windows 2008 is definitely supported (as per the RIM site) - but I've yet to find confirmation that SBS2008 works =/

Does anybody know if the BES software has to be installed directly on the domain controller? Or can it be installed on another server in the same network

BES can be installed anywhere, but as per the White papers CANNOT be installed alongside Outlook (MAPI stuff).

Did you follow a white paper install? The permissions on Exchange/AD can be confusing.

Nope only started looking at it the other day to be honest - any links for good docs? Will take another gander at the RIM KB.

Thanks for the info btw - you've taken a weight off my shoulders :)

So the plan now is to install BES on the extra Windows 2008 Standard installation, which will also run SQL Server for a custom app the client uses. According to RIM Windows 2008 is supported, so there's hope :D
