Installed a little SBS2k8 system on an ML115 for a small company a few weeks ago.

All has been going well with it and they'd like to look at using the fax services offered by it.

Is this just a simple case that I need to stuff a good old fashioned 56k fax modem in the back of it and run a couple of wizards to get it to deliver faxes to an exchange mailbox and also print a hardcopy to one of the printers on the network?

Anybody running this able to recommend a particular type of modem or will I be OK salvaging some old bit of crap out the back of a machine I have lying around here and plugging that in.

Or if someone wants to recommend a 3rd party alternative to the built in stuff for this I'm open to suggestions. It is for very light use, a few faxes a day at most and to be honest more for receiving than sending.

Yes basically you stuff the modem in and run the wizard. If you want to route the faxes to a mailbox/public folder then you will PROBABLY need the hotfix or the fax services dies randomly.

Thing is you want a reliable modem - I generally use muti-techs something like a zdxv 56k - but they are good old serial and the ml115 has no serial ports. I would go external though as you can reset the modem without rebooting the server.

Agreed on the modem choice - cheap and nasty no-name PCI 56k modems for under a tenner are indeed nasty when it comes to faxing.

Thanks chaps, actually have a couple of decent USR 56k modems in a box somewhere but they're serial. Might give a USB to serial adapter a try and see how it works out.
