Hi

At the community centre I volunteer at the users were complaining that the shared files and logging on was very very slow.

I couldn't RDP in to the server so I looked at the physical machine and I said "FAILURE CONFIGURING WINDOWS UPDATES...REVERTING CHANGES...DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER.

I checked the server about 8 hours later and it said the same thing so I manually rebooted it. Whether I try and boot to safe mode or normal the same message as above comes up.

What are my options?

I think the above problem is not the main problem.

The server finally rebooted in to SBS2011 but is running very slow. I ran the Dell diagnostics and it showed up some errors:-

Error code 4400:1780 SMART failure prediction threshold exceeded
Error code 4400:011B block xxxx medium error (this came up about 10 times for different blocks)
Error 4400:247E Drive self test failed with (0x04) The self test completed with an unknown error

On all the above errors it also gives a reference SATA_0-000_DISK_S/N:xxxxxxxxxxxx

The server is a Dell T310 with the following:-
2TB SATA 7.2k 3.5" HD Hot Plug
PERC H200 RAID Controller, For Hot Plug HDD Chassis
C18 Hot-Swap - R1 for SAS 6iR/PERC 6i/H200/H700, Exactly 2

Can I take the faulty drive out as a short term fix?

If I get a new drive do I just put it in and will the server rebuild the raid 1 array automatically?

I just found out the server had an extended 3 year Dell prosupport warranty taken out in 2014 after the initial 3 year warranty expired.

Will this cover the hard drive or will they charge for the cost of the drive?
