doing it this sunday, can someone reccomend the easiest route up since we have never gone before ?

Go up from Wasdale Head and take the left-hand route at the fork.

It's not a very difficult climb - The right-hand route is more fun.

(I'm not remotely athletic and I don't do climbing).

I agree with this. Did it in April as part of the 3 peaks.

We ended up going right at the fork by not paying much attention... by the time we noticed there was no chance I was going back! It was quite interesting, I don't rock climb and I was fine with it but there are plenty of loose rocks.

Edit: Hmm think I'm mistaken, just looked on a map and part of the route we took isn't even a walking route, apparently!! That would explain a lot

I've been up several different routes and once ran all over the mountain looking for difficult routes. Basically everything is easy in summer, and any likely path you follow will just be a hike. A few clfff area you can scramble but loose rock makes these less fun so take the ridge lines.

Anyway up is a quck fun hike in fine english scenery, don't worry.

In mid winter things get a little more interesting but the obvious routes are ala safe and relatively avalanche free. Very different to doing a scottish Munroe in winter

Edit: Start From Seathwaite -> stynhead gill -> corridor route -> scalfell summit -> little narrow cove ->esk hause -> glaramara -> Seathwaite

A nice roundtrip, easy, and intertesting

this, but in reverse :)

I suggest avoiding the motorway path from wasdale head straight up, instead head slightly to the left and up onto Lingmell. You can then drop down and join the main route for the last bit up.

If it is the first mountain you will have walked up and have no map reading experience... then I'd say just head to Wasdale and take the main route up. You can always come down a more interesting route.
The route from Wasdale is the shortest with the clearest footpath, but purests have an issue with the number of people on that route.

I'd probably wander up Great Gable, then accross the saddle onto Scaffel pike... or up Scafell and accross from the other side. Both are easilly do-able in a day if you are moderately fit.
Think have always bar once or twice started out at Wasdale... there is a good Campsite there - and the pub used to do a very good fishermans pie. If your skint the pub used to let you camp in the field opposite for a few quid, no luxuries like showers then though :)
