If there are any scaffolders on here, I need a scaffold put up and over my conservatory so that I can fix the gutter after last winter. Any ideas how much this would cost? I had a couple of quotes but they are sky high!

2 Storey house, 4.5m wide conservatory.

Thanks!

This doesn't help you much, but my workplace decided to buy a scaffold after realisng how much they cost to hire.

Your quotes are sky high because of the need to span the conservatory.

Can you get to the guttering another way?
Perhaps a ladder through the conservatory, after you've removed the glass/polycarbonate roofing.

We bought 2 towers after a similar situation with a £silly quote.

25 years later we still use them.

Cheaper to hire a handy man who will risk life and limb for beer money these days tbh,

Yesterday i saw a man climb out of an attic window and edge around the building to paint part of the brickwork on the roof, he probably didn't charge much, i was scared for him just watching.

I can use the scaffold tower or cherrypicker from work, unfortunately I can't get the cherrypicker to the rear of the house.

The scaffold towers would work but I would need to hire a 6m long staging to get between the 2 towers and span the conservatory.

This staging weighs around 50kg so would be pretty awkward to put between the 2 towers!

I have looked at removing the polycarbonite roof and putting the ladder through but it is not advisable to start moving the sheets after they have been in for a number of year, I dont want it leaking!

Not meaning to stereotype in the slightest but I think most scaffolders will be in the pub with the lads or 'entertaining ladies'

Well I had 1 turn up this afternoon in an S Class Merc so they can't be doing too bad in this "economic climate" where the construction industry is suffering!

how about thinking outside the box:

For example park the car out front, throw a climbing rope over the roof and tie securely to car, climb up back of house to gutter, climbing stuff will be cheaper to hire.

= profit?

Even easier if you can get someone to drive the car forward. :p
