…just to confirm when you’ve had your roof done (hopefully once in a lifetime experience) it’s common practice for the roofers to leave the scaffolding at your place as long as they can get away with (a week now)? Any sensible tactics from those who’ve dealt with this?

Has the scaffolding firm been paid? That's the reason why it was left on mine, although I hadn't received an invoice until I phoned up and asked why it was still there. As soon as I paid the invoice, it was removed the next day.

Thanks for the sensible reply, it was all in paid to the roofers. It came on a flat bed van with their name on it but I suppose they could have rented it off of another firm which when I think about it it probably what’s happened. As far as I’m concerned it’s the roofers problem logically although physically it is currently my problem.

I've heard stories whereby they've got a job coming up in the area and its cheaper and easier for them to leave it around an old job for a week or so than move it from one to the other than to take it down, take it back to base, store it, and then go out and put it up close by at another house. Not sure if that's true.

Yeah that would sound logical, they could let you know though :D

Have you not had pretty terrible weather this last week like the rest of the UK?? Pretty sure its a reasonable assumption to assume this is going to have an impact on how quickly the scaffold company plan on coming and taking it down!

The work was finished just before the 24hours of snow we had last Weds so they've had a week.

Edit: Plus they have not given a date to remove. If they'd have done that it wouldn't be an issue (unless they didn't turn up of course)

So you expected instant removal and are not factoring in any sort of allowance for the weather at all! Pretty sure almost no job with hired out scaffold has it removed on the day or day after the job is completed. I feel like you're being pretty impatient here.

No, we asked for a date and have not got one. I expected some delay, but with no date after a week or so (and partially erected scaffolding) it's a mess. Plus, the question I asked was "is it common practice for the roofers to leave the scaffolding at your place as long as they can get away with (a week now)?". They can't just turn up and pick it up we'd need to be in to let them in the back garden.

ETA - we had snow for 24 hours.
