Just wondering if anyone on here owns a scallop necked guitar ? and if so what are they like ?!

Just been listening to Yngwie Malmsteen recently and have taken to shine to scalloped guitars.. But having never played one it's hard to form a proper opinion. I've heard that you lose a lot of tone on bends and what have you. That is understandable though as a sizeable part of the neck is filed away. But I've also heard that you gain so much in terms of control of the strings.

So does anyone here own a scalloped guitar ?

cheers,
naffa

anyone with a jem, so toryglen-boy (sorry if that username is totally wrong) and andelusion and others maybe... have the top 4 frets scalloped..

dont know of anyone on here that has a full neck scalloped but it would be interesting to find out. you wont instantly be able to play like malmsteen if you get one... which is a good thing :p

i guess i just dont like his music anymore

when i first started getting into guitar solo music, it was Vai, Satch and malmsteen. now i'm further afield...

its Bob Zabek, Guthrie Govan, Ron Thal, Justin King.

I've played one and it isn't easy. You need to have a very light touch to carry it off and stay in tune. Remember when you play a note or chord your fingers hit the neck but on a scallop you have to stop yourself and it isn't easy. I believe Malmsteen got the idea off his hero Blackmore but Glenn Hughes told me that Blackmore bought his guitars straight off the shelf
