Over 1,200 drivers have been caught speeding in just three weeks by a single Lancashire mobile scamera, it has been reported. This has raked in £72,000 – seven times the average Lancashire speed camera’s revenue in a year.

Police set the device up in a lay-by on the 70mph A56 bypass to enforce a 50mph limit during roadworks. The device will be there for another 13 weeks while a £2.8million project to lay a new road surface and lighting is completed.

I was about to launch a thread of abuse at this, but actually I'm with them on this one.

One thing that gets on my nerves during motorway driving is tossers who speed through 50mph Roadwork zones at 80-90mph. How can you possibly complain about being caught when it is possibly the most enforced section of road on the entire motorway. I hope the people caught learn their lesson.

Thats peanuts, the ones on the A1058 made over £200k in a month. They have the road down to 30mph to do work on a bridge and the cameras have caught literally thousands of people.

Good for them. It is well known you can largely escape motorway cruising at 80-90mph but in these sections it is bloomin' obvious there will be speed cameras. If you get caught, it's your own fault for being so stupid.

lmao. Yep. Caught nearly half of my work mates. Its easy to spot the van though. So aslong as your not going too fast you dont have any bother.

I use this road twice a week ( both ways ) and have seen the signs and the van quite a lot. Anyone who gets caught is WELL within the 50mph zone and its very well signposted. You would have to be blind not to see them so anyone who gets caught deserves it in this case imho.

Admittedly ive not actually seen any workmen on the road in that area but the signage is spot on and the van is a good way inside the restricted zone.
