hi

I wonder if there's a way that I can scan hand written paperwork into word and word convert it to normal text?

Some scanning software comes with OCR built in. HP all in ones can scan straight to a Word document for example, so it's worth checking what you've already got.

Yes, that's what OCR does. Be warned though, at best it will require proof reading to correct typos, and at worst you may have to rewrite large sections of it.

would it convert the hand writing to typed text though?

To my knowledge it won't convert "hand written" text (on paper) to typed text, the OCR software will take scanned text from books etc and put it into Word Docs/PDF for you...

ABBYY Finereader and Scansoft Omnipage were the best ones I used...

It all depends on your handwriting! If you're medically qualified, I doubt you have a hope in hell of getting it to recognise your scrawl ;)

Yeah, just think of the problems we have at NHS Prescription Services when we're trying to scan prescriptions that have been hand written by Doctors!

Sorry I'm guilty of not reading the post properly, what I suggested works with typed text. Hand written text I wouldn't like to comment on!
