scanner not found in xp

hi i have a microtek 3800 witch i had on a PC i moved it to my main PC and loaded the drivers , switched off connected the usb lead and get the scanner not ready sign in task bar an if i open "my computer" all my drives are missing and my PC runs slow . i have to remove the usb and drivers, scanwizerd5 to get the pc to run normal . it worked perfectly on the other PC so whats the problem , i don't want to have to buy a new scanner , I'm using xp pro with sp2 if that makes a difference :confused:

I had this problem with an HP scanner the other week.

Using an earlier driver resolved it.

iv tried original drivers plus other more up to date ones still no go

i have gotten the scanner to work OK now as i loaded the drivers in safe mode

i waswrong the flipin thing is still given problems may have to buy a new one
