scanner/software (ulead) odd problem

a bit difficult to explain but....

at work we have xp pro and i'm not an admin.
so, i got a new scanner cos the old on broke but we cannot get it to work properly.
we install all the software (uleadphoto express 5) but if i try to scan, the program asks the scanner source (mustek 1248 scanner), click ok and then it asks again (this time: wia mustek 128 wia-scanner) - click ok and the program just crashes.
i also have paint shop pro X - if i set twain source it gives me 2 options (like the above 2 scanner entries) - the first option doesn't work when i try to aquire with it but the second one does - so at least the scanner will work in that one.
now, if the admin signs in and uses photoexpress then the program not only scans correctly but also looks slightly different (more options in the menu's).
but, we have tried changing me to admin rights and reinstalling the software but it still has the same problem for me (and not for the original admin when he signs in)

in device manager only one scanner is listed.

neither i nor the IT guy knows what the problem is or how to fix it.

are there any suggestions from you guys?? is the above clear/did i give you enough info??

I don't suppose you uninstalled it, removed your user profile, reinstalled then logged back in as yourself? You'd need the IT guys help but it sounds like a local profile problem on the computer.

we uninstalled it, changed my profile to admin and then reinstalled and that didn't help.

the it guy is also looking around the net, hopefully he will find something - i'm pretty experienced with xp but know nothing about the profile/security aspect, and i think you are right - something dodgy about my profile.

but i also don't understand whythere are 2, almost identical, twain sources listed (in my profile and the admins)
