scanner turning itself off

So tried to use my scanner after many years of not using it, but it turns itself off as soon i connect the data cable between scanner/laptop and scanner/pc.

any ideas what could be wrong with it, or how it could be fixed?
its an oldy: epson gt7000

Are the drivers installed?

If not, it may be switching off until it's detected the drivers are installed OK.

i thought i did install them but i'll have an other go.

seems to be all installed

dont know what up with it....argh!

ps is there anyway i can check to make sure i have installed the driver?

You could try going into a program that uses TWAIN (Office should be fine) and doing insert picture from scanner. It'll probably list what ever scanners are installed.

If not try this.
