I've had an Epson 3490 scanner installed and working on my PC for a while with no probs. It's suddenly stopped working. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and still no joy. It works OK on my other PC. Any clues before I format and reinstall windows?

Cheers,

no it doesn't, my old PC only has USB 1 and it's working fine on that. I've used it for about 6 months with no problems on my main PC (with USB2), just stopped working all of a sudden after having done a batch.

Yeah it doesn't sound like its the scanner if it works on another PC. Have you tried it in different USB slots? Does Windows then pick it up again? Perhaps the motherboard chipset drivers need re-installing? Is the Windows Image Acquisition (sp?) Service still running? You can check that by typing "services.msc" into the Run box.

Cheers.

Actually, coming to think of it, Firegod could be right it could be the USB port that's failed. Try another port and see if that works, or do you have any other USB devices plugged in that still work?

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

When reinstalling it and plugging it back into the USB port it goes through the 'found new hardware' recognises it as 'Epson 3490 scanner' and tells me it's ready to use. I did have a problem when I couldn't reinstall the software when it kept saying 'cannot run setup.exe please restart the computer and try again' this was from both the disk or the latest drivers from the Epson site downloaded to the HD. After I uninstalled everthing I could find relating to Epson in 'add/remove programs' in Control Panel I could reinstall the software but still no joy.

Just plugged the printer into that USB port and that works OK. Window image acquisition is running.

When I try to use it in PS it hangs photoshop until I CTRL-ALT-DEL out of it. If I try to use the stand alone Espon Scan prog it start to open and I get the Epson button in the toolbar but the app doesn't seem to load properly.

I'll try reinstalling the mobo chipset drivers before doing any reformat and reinstall of Windows.

If anyone's got any other bright ideas I'd like to hear them :)

Thanks for the help so far.

Mohain
