Scanning gold and silver

Hi everyone,

I need to scan the front covers of a few books, the titles of which are either gold or silver.

These titles are scanning really badly, they are coming out very dark.

Is there a way to improve this, or can anyone suggesst a scanner that can scan reflective objects any better than my cheap Canon Lide30?

I have never used separates as far as printing/scanning/copying goes, but I have a Canon Smartbase MP360 all in one and the scanning quality on that is very good, its pretty cheap machine to buy. It scans all sorts of things very well, magazines, letters, photos and has a very good scanning software package with it.
