Scart adaptor for freeview box

I've recently got a freeview box which for the most part I'm happy with, especially as it was dirt cheap.
Problem is if I plug the scart cable into my scart adaptor so I can switch to either my X-Box, DVD player or PS2 by just flicking the switch, then my freeview box won't work at all. Obviously it's a pain having loads of cables unplugged and having to switch them around all the time.

I only really know the basics with anything like this, so just wondering if it would be down to the scart adaptor (Don't mind buying a new one) or the freeview box?
The scart adaptor is just some cheap £10 one from Argos. The freeview box is an Inverto IDL800 if that's of any help whatsoever.

Thanks for any help :)

Is it a switching scart adaptor or is it just a 3 bank jobber with no manual switching?

It's a manual switching type thing, just press in the button to switch to a different scart.

Don't wish to be rude but are the scart leads seated in properly, all the way in (oo err misses) and none of the pins bent?

Yup they are :)
And they all work fine individually, the PS2 and the X-Box still work fine in the switching box thing (why can't I think of the right term for it? :o) but if I plug the freeview box into it, it just won't work at all.
Which made me wonder if it's some incompatibility with the box and the freeview box but I don't know :/

Right, lets start from the beginning.

How many scart sockets on the TV?

How many ont the scart switcher box?

Just the 1 on the TV.
3 on the switcher box.
So the one from the TV leads to the switcher box, then I've got the freeview box, PS2 and X-Box plugged into it.
PS2 and X-Box works fine, freeview doesn't. Tried putting them in different sockets in case one of them had gone wrong.

Have you tried the freeview box directly into the TV to ensure that it's working?

How many scart sockets are on the back of the Freeview box?

Also, unplug the PS2 and Xbox from the scart switcher and try the freeview in each of the switch boxes sockets.

Freeview box is fine plugged in directly.

There's 2 scart sockets on the back of the freeview box, one to go from box to TV, and one states it's for the VCR which is redundant for me as the TV has a built in VCR.

Tried the freeview box in each of the sockets already and it just won't work through the switch box even on its own.

Brief update:
Just borrowed a mate's switcher and it works fine, so guess it was the cheap one I had, although dunno why that'd be the case  Even tried going back to the original one in case I was being stupid but definitely doesn't work on it.

Either way, sorted now so no digging round the back of the TV for me again :)

so erm, why dont you plug the freeview into the tv, then the switcher into the vcr scart ont eh freeview. Then when u want to use an xbox etc just tell the freeview to swith to vcr and it will bypass to the switch?

The SCART adaptor you had wasn't fully wired, in most cases this doesn't matter and they just use the basic wires and leave the rest but some more advanced equipment utilises more of the wireing and hence need fully wired plugs.

Glad you got your issue sorted :)
