Hi folks am in the market for a new monitor, but the question i need answering is can you connect sky+ (non hd ) using a scart to vga cable? i want the higher gaming rez but also use it as a tv, any ideas
Thx.
Is a scart to VGA cable enough these days ? While you can get simple cables to convert the plugs and sockets and separate the sync signals it may be a good idea to double check the horizontal frequency on both the SKY box and the monitor :
VGA timings normally start around 31.469KHz horizontal frequency
TV's are normally 15.625Khz horizontal frequency
So you need either a monitor that will sync down to 15Khz and very few do, or a sky box that can sync at 31Khz. Failing that you'll need a converter of some sort, the consumer versions are not so expensive.
It's a few years since I last looked into this so forgive me if the above is out of date
£60 is about what I payed for my scart to vga cable. Again, double check exactly what it does. My cable separates the synchronization signals on the scart socket and presents them on the correct VGA pins but it does nothing about the actual sync frequencies. My plasma is actually a monitor and not a tv. It has only one input which is vga but my plasma does sync down to 15Khz. I <3 my plasma
