Just been over 6 months from my little brother taking his own life during his BRF training before deployment to Afghanistan.

In a matter of days one of the lads, one of his best made was killed.

Guardsman Daniel Probyn

Then today we hear that one of the lad we had met and heard many tails of sadly was killed whom was the same age as my brother.

Guardsman Neil Downes AKA Tony

Both lads served with my bro in Iraq in 2006 as well other things. All in the same reg being the 1st Battalion the Grenadier Guards.

I know my bro took his own life and it happend in the UK but it has crossed my mind that with whats happened maybe he knew it was going to happen as did my mum as she once said. Not the fact things went wrong in Iraq and he saw and did stuff that non of us would ever expect to do in any point of our life.

I guess my family was lucky we were able to get him home in a few days as the familys that have just had there recent loss have had to wait much longer.

Kinda scary when you think deep!

R.I.P. boys, now ya with Iain we dread to think what on earth you will get up too togther.

Miss you bro

Pete, ya big brv x

We rarely hear the personal stories behind losses such as those that have been on the news, and that of your brother. I hope the MOD did / is giving you enough support to deal with such a sad situation.

Nah not really. After the inquest it went silent. Kent Police have been the only ones to keep intouch to say are we okay and just hello which is cool.

The MOD have just started there thing and have flown some part of there team out to where the boys are now to ask more questions.

Just makes you wander with whats happend today and few weeks ago, what if my bro was about and went out there. My mum before we lost her said she felt he wouldn't of come back.

Sorry to hear about that Draz :(

There's a long article in the Sunday Times about the number of ex-servicemen who have taken their lives since the Falklands, outnumbers how many were killed in the conflict itself. I don't think we civies will ever know what it's really like.

This has just made my heart stop.

My girlfriends brother is being flown to Iraq to serve our country tomorrow. :(

Just tell him to mind out for the Yanks, there the dangrous ones in Iraq.

Plus the 3 lads made it home from there!

I know stuff that happend in Iraq that shouldn't of done at al and stuff which i can see why my bro did what he did.

It's all the goverments fault. Did we really need to go in with our heads up the yanks backside...no!

RIP and deepest sypathy to all the families.

Having said that, what is it that the armed forces are for? do people join up thinking that actually having to fight is an optional thing? or that they can pick and choose where and when they should do what they get paid for?

I mean no disrespect to any of the fallen or their families but if you join the forces, you may have to go to war when required.

Man, thats sad :(

Kinda nice to see that you can be open about it, whilst not meaning to be patronising I still think it deserves a well done.
