So there I was yesterday casually out getting heatstroke doing a 10 mile hike/climb at a place called Breakneck Ridge when I almost stepped on this (I was about 3ft away when I saw it)

Only snake i know that is quite common in england is a Grass Snake. They smell bad when you pick them up though!
