So my PC is up and running. Windows installed. Go to install my PCI sound card and I just can't get it to fit. Was really annoying me and then it hit me. I've got a RIVE, apart from one small slot, the rest are PCIe. So the small slot is taken up by my wireless adapter. Soooo, is their anything I can do or will I send it back and get something else? Is their something else?

If it is a PCIe x1 sound card, you should still be able to fit it in the x16 slot.

What motherboard do you have? You may need to change the lane, but most these days will allow you to simply plug & play.

Unfortunately the Rampage IV Extreme has no PCI slots so either:

1) Use the onboard audio

2) Buy a PCI-E sound card

3) Return the motherboard if possible using the DSR or 14 day satisfaction guarantee (assuming it's from OcUK) and buy one with a PCI slot

Yeah I'll phone ocuk Monday and send it back for a pci-e. Just to make sure on this as I've never done it before. But can a sound card(a pci-e one) with a small connecter can fit in a big pci-e slot?

Sorry, I didn't realise the sound card was new as well.

Returning that would be the easiest option.

You can use a PCI-E sound card in one of the larger PCI-E slots.

You can fill out an RMA WebNote here.
