So, was playing about with the oc on my xfire 7950's last night, and spent about an hour playing Hitman Absolution afterwards.

Thought to myself hmm my PC is very quiet tonight - turns out I'd left the fans in afterburner set at 25% only. I created a new profile, but accidentally realised I'd left it without 'auto' on!! AHH!

Temperatures:

86c on the bottom card, and
97c on the top card.... SHIIIIIII

Usually I put about 1.25v through the cards on Hitman because I like to have a nice OC going so I can play with max AA and the like and temperatures don't reach over 72-75c - which is actually a bit high anyway for my liking.

Anyone think there's going to be something nasty around the corner for me if I was running the top card especially at such a high temperature for probably 50
minutes?

If your cards are still running then it will be fine. AMD GPUs start throttling down at 90c (possibly 95c) so long term damage is avoided. At those temps the main problem may have been the VRMs but if they get too hot the card just locks up.

In short, I think your cards are fine.

Thanks...I thought they might have some kind of throttling in place at high temps.

It didn't crash or anything so I'm hoping it's all good :)

I repeatedly do the same thing, and MSI AB is a bit fickle in its self, some times after a system restart it switches it from your setting to (locked at 25%) and then cooks your GPU the next time you play a game.

It did this to me just a couple of days ago, 30 minutes before I spotted my temps at 97c.

You have to watch MSI AB for it randomly deciding it wants to lock the fan at 25% and boil the GPU.

It's not just me then :P

It does decide to turn auto off at some random points, I normally end up checking on boot up just to make sure my auto profile is set. I definitely will from now on and possibly on a more regular basis, I don't want it doing it again. Hopefully got away with it this time

Cores themselves should be fine - most modern GPUs the cores can go to about 105C for short term operation before theres any significant chance of damage or shortening of lifespan... I would be a little concerned about the VRMs tho so don't do it too often :P as mentioned above you usually get very noticeable stuttering or hard lockups if they get warm enough to do damage tho.
