School Reunions, who has been to one?

Thinking back to a good few years ago now when I was in a school year FB group and a reunion was organised, I was the funny guy in the group and everyone seemed to enjoy my comments lol.
I'm a shy guy and as soon as I got there I felt I was back in 4th year tbh, all the bully boys reverted back to being so but myself being older and wiser and well a lot stronger had fun with them and told them where to go, they didn't know how to react to it, This was early on, if I would have done the same while they were drunk maybe I would have came away with a sore face? I still shyed away from talking to the cool girls that attended though, grrr, We ended up all going back to some girls house and I ended up dancing with a married woman, we ended up in the bedroom, I threw her on the bed and I jumped on next to her...cue it being a cheap ikea bed and the slats snapping, the two of us with out heads spinning ran out of the room like children.
 
I later found out her hubby was a black belt in some fighting style lol...
She was only married 4 months at the time.

Imagine the backlash if he's a member on here?

Been to a few. First one was a 10 year one and organised by a few of the girls from my form and they invited literally everyone from our year, all 5 forms including the divvy form, and it was an absolute riot, quite literally a riot. Last one was about 5 years ago and was only about 30 of us, that was far more civilised.
 
Never been to one, never seen one advertised for any school I've been too and my younger sister (who kept intouch with literally hundreds of other students) hasn't heard of one either. Maybe Stoke isn't really into this sort of thing?

Do 90s nights exist yet? I presume they do. Are they any good - i.e. dance and indie music like Blur, Oasis, Prodigy, Chemical Bros, Fatboy Slim, Republica, Primal Scream, Stone Roses, Sleeper, Ash, New Order, The Verve etc?

The bar staff were given a burned cd to play, but they kept the volume low lol, this tune is one that sticks on my head...

 
Too young to have one yet, think my 10 year one is coming up in a couple years time and I'll definitely be attending if i'm available. I did have a 10 year one for my form in secondary school which was fun, but I'd kept in touch with most people so there wasn't much catching up.

Never seen a purely 90s night, but noughty 90s nights are popular, mix of 90s classics and early 2000s.
 
Was a few attempts to make it happen at the 10 year anniversary of leaving but nothing really came of it. 5-6 of had a few drinks at a pub Christmas Eve once and I think there was a couple of other informal gatherings of about the same number.

Lot of people in my year at school are far too spread out now for it to really happen.

I run into some from my year at school now and again it is strange how people change - especially hitting around 40 some suddenly look really old even compared to 2-3 years ago, some of the people everyone thought would come to nothing are like successful business owners, others that were high achievers at school, massively outgoing and part of the popular kids group have slumped into dead end jobs and become largely introverted, etc. etc.

Funny how that works out - some of the hottest girls in the year time really hasn't been kind to especially those that became parents while on the flip-side some of the plainer ones have really blossomed.
 
Went to a 10-year re-union, back in the earlier days of Facebook when normal people were on it rather than just bitter pensioners complaining about everything. It was a good event, nice to catch up with people.

The majority of us were still in the UK back then, these days people are all over the world. Would take a hell of an effort to get it organised now.
 
I’m sure school reunions are a psychologist’s wet dream. There will be a reversion to type, so some will return to their former cliques, behaviours and rivalries. There will be those who are there to “prove” something ie their relative success after being an underdog. There will be those hoping to to reignite old passions (unrequited or otherwise).

There’s a lot to unpack. It’s not a surprise it’s an American movie trope.

I’ve only been to a Uni one, and thankfully there were only a few there needing to prove something or having an agenda. The rest of us reverted to form and got hammered.
 
Nope, I recall seeing something on FB when I was on there about 10 years ago but didn't attend or respond. To be honest, I'm ashamed of who I was back in school, wasted terrible youth and want to ignore it ever happened.
 
Being to a few, the last one was a 30 year reunion.

The bullies are still bullies and think they are still something.,

1 guy had turned to creepy weird religion which he tried to ram down everybody's throat.

A lot of the hottest girls at school really had let themselves go/ruined by the time they were 48. Lots of them married/divorced, several kids, no career etc etc

Interesting to see how some people had turned out though.

One guy who was useless, a complete dosser at school and barely scrapped through a few grades was now CEO for Disney Asia.

The maths geek had set up a very successful dot com company and sold up for £20m several years ago and was now fulfilling his dream of being a full time clown in a circus act.

Another guy was CEO of one of the worlds best media/PR/marketing company who wins awards after awards for their ad campaigns.

Lots and lots of very very successful people which did then question what I had done with my life though.

Nope. Went to an all boys school and only had 2-3 lads I considered mates. Only kept in touch with one of them as we both were apprentices at a nearby defence company.

Would consider it now after 40 years if I was back in the U.K. just to see how many of the people I hated have died or ****** their lives up.

Maybe.
I was bullied a fair bit in middle school. And never really made what I'd call good friends. You know, you're friends because it's the best you have in a small population.

But how differently those would see me now. That would be why I'd go. Which is probably a bit pathetic (going to demonstrate you are so much different to that weak, meek kid).


I know a few from Facebook but not many, and know of a a few others from their pics.
One of my fav discoveries was the year hottie is very much not the year hottie now!

That's why I'd go. To be nosey, for a pick me up. I probably shouldn't go!
