"Karting has a very good training effect, that is why today I just jumped into a testing day of the Tony Kart team in Lonato," he said on his personal website. "There is nothing better for my preparations at the moment - in terms of steering wheel forces for example karting is even more difficult than Formula One.”

really can't wait, the hype will get bigger the closer it comes! then MS is gunna crash on first corner :D

He'd be better off pulling out and giving one of the test drivers a chance, there's no way he can live up to the hype being generated.

bitter much?

About what exactly. Never been a fan. As far as racng drivers go he's the stereotype smug git. I can't take his 7 titles away from him, that's a great achievement and worthy of respect but I feel his time has been and gone and F1 should be about the racing and not a PR circus.

Of course the teams have test drivers. They are allowed to run in practice session IIRC and teams need backup drivers. The test drivers are mainly out of season thanks to current rules though. Ideally one those drivers should be given the chance, as is the norm, but then that wouldn't be great PR.

Thing is Dup, when your replacement driver options are:

1) Luca Badoer - 48 race starts, 0 wins, 0 points
2) Marc Gené - 36 race starts, 0 wins, 5 points
3) Michael Schumacher - 249 race starts, 91 wins, 7 titles, 1369 points, 68 pole positions, 76 fastest laps, 154 podiums, 4741 laps led, 22 perfect races (pole, fastest lap, win)

it's a fair bet that you're going to go with Schumacher if possible isn't it?

So bloody unlucky to have 0 points too. Wasn't he running 4th in Australia '01 until the Minardi gave up on him?

Dup - Badoer's 38 with not a massive amount of racing experience, and Gené.. well, he only raced with Minardi to be fair, but you'd have though if he was any good he'd have had a drive. Actually that might be a lie, didn't he have a few races with Williams? My memory sucks :)

I doubt it, since he hasn't driven in a race since the end of the '99 season :) Though you're right about his luck, he came close to points a few times in his career (he damned near scored a point for Scuderia Italia in '93, which would have been an effort worth a knighthood).

The particular incident he was talking about was the 99 European GP where he was going to finish 4th and was understandably upset when the car broke down.
