Been playing Wow, Guild Wars and Oblivion lately and then it hit me, outside of System Shock 1 and 2 and Deus Ex what Sci-Fi RPG's are there?
Typical RPG's I mean not the climb into a ship and trade the way up to another better equipped ship style that we have millions of.

More-so why the lack of them? Is it too close the the FPS genre or what? Since most FPS's are Sci-Fi based.

Cheers!

As much as I am obsessed with Oblivion at the moment, I am bored stiff with fantasy RPG now. Like you, I would love a good sci-fi RPG. :(

The problem at the moment is that fantasy RPG's are seen as the "cash-cow" by the major companies thanks to the success of WoW in the MMORPG market. We'll have to put up with loads of clones until someone realises there's another market out there.

KOTOR is the main one that springs to mind.

As for the focus on fantasy, it's kinda to be expected due to the fact that the whole RPG genre owes a debt of gratitude to the pen-and-paper D&D games.

Which in turn is pretty much based around Tolkien.

Keep an eye on this

http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/fallout3/index.html

and its by Bethesda Softworks so its going to be a great addition to the fallout series

A Bethesda fella was on the PC Gamers US podcast a week or so back, and he gave Fallout a small mention. He actually wasn't allowed to talk to much about it, but he did say that with Oblivion out the door, Fallout 3 is what the main teams working on.

I'll give KOTOR a run then, I've known about that for ages too but never tried it since it's so bleein hard to come by!

Even KOTOR 2 is hard to track down these days.
Thanks!
