Scoliosis/Posture clinic in London

So I have a wonky spine. It bends to the right between my shoulder blades causing my right shoulder to sit forward. My left shoulder sits back where it should with my scapular flat. To correct for the larger swing at the top my spine then does a sharp reverse correction at my lower back, with an added twist.

It doesn't really cause me any pain but has lead to a muscular imbalance, and due to difficulty in things like retracting my scapular during exercises requiring it (so, lots!), I'm opening myself up to injury. Plus, ykno, aesthetics :p

I already do posture and mobility work but given limited progress I'd like to explore some more specific professional help. So I'm after recommendations in the central London area, if anyone has any! I can travel a bit but if its too far it will be difficult to fit in around work.

I eventually saw a physio for other reasons who identified I did/do have muscle imbalances and issued me various exercises to resolve this and thus I've made some improvements but it is a slow progress thing.

How long have you been doing the work you've been doing to help it?

With any sort of consistency I'd say about 6 months. I've seen an osteopath and a chiropractor so far - Haven't tried a regular physio yet. That's kinda the next step - Is it worth going to an actual posture clinic, or just seeing a regular physio? From the looks of Scoliosis SOS it would certainly be cheaper to try a physio first!
 
My scoliosis isn't that bad tbh (when I switched doctors, one of them didn't believe me despite me having Xray scans previously) but my physio is trying to resolve some of the posture and balance problems which have definitely benefited me.

In terms of what would benefit you the most, it really depends on the extent your scoliosis affects you and what you want. The only reason I haven't tried out scoliosis SOS yet is because my private health cover doesn't include it and results seem to vary from what i've researched so far then again they do say there isn't a 'cure' for scoliosis only remedy.

I'm sure there is at least one other person in SA who can maybe provide some insight on the matter....
 
Treatment of yoru scoliosis depends entirely one what caused it in the first place...

But based on what you've said, it seems as though you are not doing the 'right' exercises, stretches or whatever.

I had a mild scoliosis growing up, which gave rise to certain problems and was exacerbated by martial arts and being a sedentary office-based drone. Mine was amusingly fixed through a vast quantity of mobility work (primarily due to horrific chronic lumbar pain), direct/indicat core work (core exercises and lifting weights, respectively).

Assuming you are just dealing with muscular issues (that are not too heavily related to structural problems), then it is a question of lots of mobility and lots of specific core strengthening work. A physio will be able to help with tissue release (anybody can, but a physio will know where to point) and specify the core stability work you need.

The guys I used to work with came from Core Cambridge, who had a fun case study on their website of a young girl who had been straightened out using stretching/mobility/strengthening work, but I can't find it any more. :(

So yes - go see a physio and prepare to cause yourself some pain. :)
